But why was I so excited?
The "ballroom concept", in a nutshell, is a modern-day Cinderella story. It started in New York’s LGBT scene in the ‘80s, in the form of a parade/competition, famously documented in the film Paris Is Burning. The contestants, each representing a "house" (inspired by models representing fashion houses) were walking or "voguing" the runway (performing poses similar to the ones in Vogue magazine, which became a type of stylized modern dance, brought to mainstream by Madonna's "Vogue" video).
